Yoi Table
Multi-use Pine cabinet

Supported by sleek steel legs, Yoi uses a finger-jointed pine cabinet to create a groovy spot for a TV, or a hollow chamber to showcase your vinyl collection.

Prior to construction, I modelled the entire design in Fusion 360. This not only accelerated the process but also allowed me to create a custom jig to hold the legs during welding. The legs, made from steel square hollow sections, were joined using MIG welding, then painted black after grinding the visible welds flat.

The cabinet began as four 18mm planks of pine, which I biscuited together and cut to size. For the corner joints, I wanted more detail than simple mitres, so I utilised my CNC skills to design a tool path for perfectly spaced finger joints that slotted together firmly. The cabinet was then secured to the legs with screws from underneath and finished with an oil-based stain which penetrated the wood, giving it a rich, warm colour that highlights the pine's grain.
